Verify the Telebirr or bank receipt. Then hand over the goods.

Photograph the payment screenshot. TrustBirr asks CBE, Telebirr and other Ethiopian banks what actually reached your account — in about a second, while the customer is still standing at the counter.

Pay with Telebirr through Chapa.

Three things a careful cashier still cannot see

Each of these started life as a real transfer. That is exactly why looking harder at the screen does not help.

The amount was edited

A genuine transfer, opened in a photo editor. The reference number is real, so a phone call to the bank confirms nothing unless somebody compares the amount digit by digit.

Nothing about this image is fake. It already paid for something else, at another branch, three days ago — and your cashier has no way to know that.

From counter to verdict

The whole check happens while the customer is putting their phone away.

  1. 0.0 s

    Point the camera

Your cashier photographs the screenshot on the customer's phone, or scans the QR code printed on the receipt.

  2. a few seconds

    The server reads it

The photo goes to TrustBirr. The bank, reference, amount and date are read there. There is no correction step — the check starts as soon as the photo is taken.

  3. about 1 s

    The bank answers

TrustBirr looks that reference up with the bank and compares every field against what the customer is showing you.

  4. and it is logged

    You get a verdict

Green, red or grey, big enough to read at arm's length. The receipt joins your records without anyone typing anything.

Every check becomes a number you can use

Verification is only half of it. Because every scan is logged the moment it happens, the day’s takings add themselves up.

Filter by branch, staff member, bank or verdict, over any window up to 90 days.

Compare against the previous period, so a quiet week is visible rather than merely felt.

On Shop and Chain, export the filtered set as a CSV for your accountant.

Who sees what

A cashier needs a verdict. An owner needs the whole picture. Nobody needs somebody else’s numbers.

Questions merchants ask first

What happens when a bank does not answer?

You get a grey “could not verify”, never a false green. The check is logged as unverifiable with the reason, and you decide how to handle it. TrustBirr does not guess when it does not know.

Does TrustBirr touch my money?

No. It reads payment references and asks the bank whether they exist and what they were for. It cannot move, hold, or refund anything, and it never needs your banking password.

Which banks and wallets can TrustBirr check?

Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE), Telebirr, Bank of Abyssinia, Awash Bank, and Dashen — the providers Ethiopian shops see most often at the counter. The live list is on the Supported banks section and in Help.

Can it catch an edited payment screenshot?

Yes. TrustBirr looks the reference up with the bank and compares amount, destination and timing against what the customer is showing. A photo editor that changes digits does not change what the bank has on file.

What about a receipt that was already used?

If your shop has already accepted that reference, TrustBirr flags it as a duplicate. A real transfer shown at a second till is still caught when the same business tries to take it twice.

How does pricing work?

You buy a credit pack once — Counter, Shop or Chain. Each verified receipt uses one credit. Credits stack; there is no monthly subscription to cancel. Pay with Telebirr through Chapa.

What languages does the app support?

English, Amharic and Afaan Oromoo. Each staff member picks their own language without affecting anyone else. This website is in English.
