What TrustBirr is

TrustBirr lets an Ethiopian merchant check whether a CBE, Telebirr, Bank of Abyssinia, Awash or Dashen receipt matches what that provider currently says about the reference. It logs the result so the shop can read reports.

TrustBirr is not a bank, a wallet, or a payment processor. It never takes in customer funds and never pays them out. A green verdict means the reference matched; it is not a guarantee that the customer is honest, that the goods should change hands, or that a later reversal will not happen at the bank.

The account

An account is opened on this website with an Ethiopian mobile number, a PIN, and a paid credit pack. Staff the owner adds log in with their own numbers. The owner is responsible for who they invite and for every check those people run.

Keep the PIN to the person it belongs to. Five wrong guesses lock that number for a few minutes. A PIN reset signs other devices out. Do not share an owner login with the till.

Credit packs

Access is a bundle of checks, not a calendar month. Each verified, suspicious or unverifiable result uses one credit. When credits reach zero the product pauses until the owner buys another pack.

Checkout is Telebirr, through Chapa, on this website. Prices include VAT. Credits from a new pack add to whatever is left. Moving to a smaller pack waits until the current balance is empty; extra staff and branches from a larger pack stay on the account but lock until the owner moves up or removes them.

Pack fees are not refunded once credits are available to spend, except where a payment never completed.

Using the product

Use TrustBirr only for receipts presented to your own business in the ordinary course of a sale. Do not feed it references you picked up elsewhere, do not probe other people's accounts, and do not wrap our check in another product you sell as your own.

Banks and wallets change their pages. A “could not verify” result means we could not confirm the receipt, not that it is fake. The cashier still decides whether to hand over the goods. We are not liable for a sale you make or refuse on the back of a verdict.

Your data in the product

You grant TrustBirr a licence to hold and process the receipts, photos, staff list and bank accounts you put in the product, solely to provide the service described in the Privacy Policy. That licence ends when the account is deleted, except for records the law says we must keep.

You must have a legitimate reason to photograph a receipt a customer shows you. Do not upload images of people or documents that are not part of the payment you are checking.

What we owe you

We will run the service with reasonable care, keep a check from one shop out of another shop's log, and tell you at help@trustbirr.et if a provider we list is down for more than a short blip.

We do not promise that a given bank will answer, that every digit on every photo will be read, or that the app will be reachable on every network in Ethiopia. Credits are not restored automatically because a bank timed out; the unverifiable result is still a check you asked us to attempt.

When it stops

The owner can stop buying packs at any time. Remaining credits still work until they run out. We may suspend an account that looks abusive, that we cannot bill, or that a regulator tells us to close. A suspended shop can write to help@trustbirr.et.

Law and changes

We may update these terms. The current version is always this page. Continuing to run checks after a change is acceptance of the new version. The Privacy Policy says how we handle personal data.
